Hi guys, I’m back with a new round of DNFs. It’s only the beginning of February and I’ve already DNFed 7 books. I did have a great start to the year reading-wise, so I’ll take it. All of these books are eARCs, and some of them are really old eARCs. I’ve actually been really enjoying the books I’ve been reading that I already own, so YAY! This edition of Did Not Finish could also be titled Authors I’m Forced to Break Up With.
The Bone Witch
This book excited me from the minute I saw the cover. But unfortunately this book didn’t work for me. There was literally NOTHING going on. The writing was beautiful, but because the plot was so slow, the book didn’t work for me.
I fell in love with the cover long before I sat down to read this book. I picked it up multiple times, but couldn’t get through it. I finally had to concede defeat even though it broke my heart not to finish it. It just wasn’t grabbing me.
Ugh, I was really looking forward to this book, but early on, I realized it was not going to work for me. It couldn’t hold my attention for longer than a minute or two and I didn’t get excited to pick it back up again whenever I could.
This just breaks my heart because I was so excited for this book years ago. I think I even called it my most anticipated title. But after several years of picking it up and setting back down, I think I just have to admit defeat. The world building was just too much too fast (info dumping) and I found myself overwhelmed.
One Was Lost
Ugh, I wanted so much to enjoy this book, but the characters bugged the crap out of me. Normally, that wouldn’t be an issue, but I was totally un-invested in the story as well. I finally decided not to finish it.
This is where I officially break up with this author. After her first book, which I loved, her books have just gotten progressively more boring and uninteresting. I will not be giving her any more chances.
I think I officially need to break up with this author. Her books just don’t work for me no matter how much I try to enjoy them. This book had everything I could want in a mystery/thriller, but I was BORED. I finally decided not to read any more of it.
Am I alone in the books I chose not to finish?
